Jeannette en safari

This was Jeannette's first trip to Africa. It was great having Rita's mom making the big journey from Lebanon to Congo. With more than 3 weeks here she had the chance to discover a bit of this fascinating country. But no trip to Africa would be complete...

Safari - part 4

A group of Topis, one of the fastest antilopes Buffalo in control of the area Time for a Topi's nap The quiet Marabout I guess you all know those ones.... and we finish our safari with those beautiful giraffes

Safari - part 3

Looks like he did not like we got too close In Akagera there are around 70 elephants living in various areas. The one we managed to see is actually an aggressive being that has decided to continue solo. He is reportedly dangerous if one approaches too...

Safari - part 2

Gracious impalas Impalas are abundant in Akagera. This antilope is characterized by the black and white lines on her tail. Impalas can jump up to 4 meters height and 11 meters long. They did not seem very shy to us. Bushbucks can be massive Yawning Hippo...

Safari - part 1

Our first encounter in the park are those two Maasai giraffes. A number of them were imported from Kenya a few years ago. Now they are well integrated in the park and there are more than 70. Still a bit shy, they move away everytime we get too close....

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park covers over 1000 sq km of savannah west of the Kagera River, which denotes the frontier with Tanzania. It was first established in 1934. The park has beautiful undulating plains with dense, broad-leafed woodland, lighter acacia woodland...

Trip to Rwanda

Rwanda. What one usually associates with this country is either the genocide (that took place 12 years ago) or the famous gorillas. We're not going to talk of any of these here. Those interested knowing more on the 1994 massacres definitely should watch...

Safari in Rwanda

Unexpected encounter - Une rencontre inattendue

Rita was on field trip in North Kivu, around Lubero, a few days ago. Her car suddently had to stop. This wild chimpanzee was in the middle of the road and wanted to prevent cars to pass by, threatenening anyone who did not want to comply. A bit of patience...
